Solid axle testing system VWP-I 2500

For so-called heavy maintenance, during which the wheelsets are removed from the rail vehicle, extensive inspection procedures are required to assess the condition of the axles within the wheelset. For this purpose, the axles must be inspected over their entire length for operational damage. As long as the wheels have not been removed, this is primarily carried out using ultrasonic testing methods.

Strong performance, versatile customization options

The VWP-I 2500 optimally combines ultrasonic testing with the transport requirements of wheelsets during maintenance operations and is therefore designed as a portal testing system. The wheelsets are rolled into the testing system on rails embedded in the floor, securely centered, and then inspected using two (or more) arms equipped with ultrasonic probes. Particular emphasis is placed on the option for manual or semi-automatic loading and unloading of the testing system, as well as on simple parameter configuration for frequently changing axle designs and easy adjustment of the ultrasonic testing technology. For this purpose, the system software is equipped with user-friendly input interfaces, enabling quick setup and adjustment to different axle geometries. Thanks to the wide adjustment range for various axle geometries, the user benefits from a highly powerful testing system for the inspection of wheelset axles during heavy maintenance.

Features of the testing system

  • Portal testing system with wheelset support stand and flowing water coupling (optionally oil)
  • High testing speed for short inspection times with high resolution
  • Optimal support for the setup of new axle designs
  • Automatic evaluation of test results according to applicable standards
  • Display of test results in A-scan, B-scan and C-scan formats
  • Expandable according to customer requirements
